CHRISTMAS DOMINOES FRENCH VERBS! 99 high-frequency French verbs Christmas differentiated dominoes - 3 games, 3 challenges - great for keeping your students joyful at Christmas! The lessons in the run-up to Christmas are a great opportunity to revisit language learnt earlier on in the school year - Christmas-themed resources really do seem to be a great motivator! My students love to work independently, and just get on with things - I have several folders of learning resources that they can select in free-choice time, and the dominoes are a big favourite! The 99 French verbs and their English equivalent are in the infinitive form. There are 3 differentiated games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One the verbs are in alphabetical order, French to English Challenge Two the verbs are in random order, French to English Challenge Three the verbs are in random order, English to French My students really like to have a reference sheet too, so I’ve included one here - we use it as a year-round resource, not just at Christmas! It’s definitely worth the effort to laminate the dominoes - they’re far more user-friendly, and they last for many Christmas lessons! PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES BEGINNER GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS & QUIZ featuring 99 beginner German words and phrases, 198 matching German and English Santa cards and whole-group multi-skill vocabulary quiz with 60 questions The Christmas-theme cards work really well for revision and practice - my students find the Santa cards fun and motivating! There are 198 matching German and English vocabulary cards, which is definitely quite a bit of prep. I always laminate my vocabulary cards, they are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years, so it’s worth the extra prep time and expense. There a lots of different games students can play entirely independently, and I’ve outlined a selection that work well for us. My students really like to work together, in pairs or in small groups, moving away from more teacher-led activities. The games enable them to practice and consolidate their key beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, and they really do create a lively language learning environment. Students can have either an entire set, depending on the size of their learning group, or particular collections of cards, according to the vocabulary theme. I’ve described the set as not grade-specific, because the content depends on the particular learning stage your students have reached, or are working towards. The vocabulary in this set focuses on: die Begrüßungen die Tage der Woche die Monate des Jahres die vier Jahreszeiten die Zahlen 0 bis 31 die Farben die Länder The set comprises: 198 matching German and English Santa cards, each with a particular word or phrase from the above vocabulary groups 60-question whole-group multi-skill quiz, with a range of questions such as Wie sagt man … auf Englisch? Wie schreibt man … auf Deutsch? The quiz is a non-editable presentation file for copyright reasons, and moves on to the next question with a click. Have a look through it first before you play the quiz with your students, so that you can prepare any additional questions or dialogue you think would work well for them Have a browse in my store for more German Christmas activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles & resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! FRENCH ER VERBS NEAR FUTURE TENSE

(1)
GCSE FRENCH NEAR FUTURE TENSE -ER VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE, featuring 25 high-frequency French -ER verbs. I've used these kinds of quick conjugation workbooks for years with my students, and they find them really useful. They like to practise the conjugations regularly across the school year, and with the answer key, they're able to work and learn completely independently. The workbook's really versatile - I use them in lots of different contexts, for example for directed practice when I'm introducing the near future tense, for free-choice class time, for vacation practice, for home learning and for sub lessons. The 10-page workbook has this structure: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: CHALLENGE 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation CHALLENGE 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French CHALLENGE 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt There's a Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills. We also note down any new verbs we meet, which enables students to build up their own verb vocab bank. It's a great tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really successful and popular activity. Each workbook has an accompanying 6-page answer key book - this is absolutely essential in my opinion - answer keys help students develop more insight and independence in their learning, and of course, self and peer assessing does give them a further opportunity to engage with the conjugations - additionally, they really enjoy correcting each others' work! FRENCH ER VERBS IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE FOCUSING ON 25 FRENCH -ER VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I've found it's really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges with a full answer key. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they're really versatile, and ideal for advanced beginner to intermediate French students who want to practice and refresh their conjugation skills in French, and work on the imperfect tense a little more. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I've found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well. The resource is structured as follows: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS PERFECT TENSE

GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are working with more complex language and texts, and KS4 German students who are revising tense and conjugation. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle follows a certain pattern, which students are able to***identify and predict*** the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. I do tend to introduce the perfect tense and imperfect tense fairly closely together, as usage of the tenses is not directly equivalent with English for example, particularly in spoken German, and it’s really useful to be able to compare and contrast tenses. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as***entlang and entgegen*** are not included in this particular collection of verbs. PRIMARY SPANISH FRUITS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 FRUITS CLASSROOM DISPLAY POSTERS My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are25 fruits, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender. I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing, vocab and spelling games too. We don’t actually learn 25 fruits at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as starfruit and redcurrants. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practicing language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy! The fruits are: green apples red apple bananas cherries dates fig green grapes red grapes kiwi lemon mango nectarine olives oranges papaya peach pear pineapple pumpkin raspberry redcurrants rhubarb starfruit strawberries watermelon The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave. There are two non-editable files in a zipped format. They’re copyright, all rights reserved. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. My younger learners really love to work with the cards, and we play as often as we can in the run-up to Halloween. There are lots of games they like to play, and I’ve described several of them in the resource file. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - it’s quite a bit of prep, but do laminate them if you can, as they are far more user-friendly, and also last for many Halloweens! GERMAN FRUITS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN FRUITS POSTERS FLASHCARDS Das Obst auf Deutsch 25 fruits in German, definite article, masculine & feminine, singular & plural. Using flashcards to introduce and practise language is a popular and successful language teaching and learning method, providing lots of opportunity for vocabulary games and recall. The flashcards are equally useful as classroom posters, keeping key target language prominent and visible, as well as creating a really German ambiance in the learning environment. I use this set to gradually introduce and work on the concept of gender, and to provide speaking and pronunciation prompts, from the straightforward Was ist das? to Ja/nein or Richtig/falsch questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as plurals or particularly negative sentences, which can be quite tricky in German, and often requires a lot of practice Nein, das ist kein Apfel, das ist eine Banane and so on. This kind of vocabulary is really useful for an implicit approach to introducing and practising the accusative of articles too, for example Ich habe einen Apfel, ich habe den Apfel. The key focus on on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction. It’s good to move away from predominantly teacher-led activities, and after the initial introduction phase, I have students take turns manipulating the cards and asking the questions. Again, this is a really popular activity, and a very easy way of enabling students to practise asking questions, instead of always responding to them. The fruits are: green apples red apple bananas cherries dates fig green grapes red grapes kiwi lemon mango nectarine olives oranges papaya peach pears pineapple pumpkin raspberry redcurrants rhubarb starfruit strawberries watermelon I don’t have 25 fruits in my initial learning plan, but I always have additional language to provide some variety as well as a little extra challenge. FRENCH CLOTHES FLASHCARDS POSTERS

(0)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS2 FRENCH KS3 FRENCH CLOTHES FLASHCARDS POSTERS instant introduction to 20 clothes items in French. The fashcards / posters also give the learning environment a fabulous*** French*** look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They also help learners familiarise themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The target language features singular and plural nouns with the indefinite / partitive article, some with colour and adjectival agreement, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to other languages learners may speak or know. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, other languages, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts, and how adjectives may change according to gender and number. This is really useful for both current and later learning. It doesn’t matter if some of the items don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. The 20 nouns are: cap * coat * dress * glasses * gloves * hat * jacket * jeans * jersey / jumper / pullover * scarf * schoolbag / rucksack * shirt * shoes * skirt * sneakers / trainers * socks * sunglasses * T-shirt * tie * trousers There are four poster headers: les vêtements, Qu’est-ce que tu portes ?, Qu’est-ce que tu as ? and Qu-est-ce que c’est ? The labels/answers correspond to the question format. This really does help to promote speaking in the classroom, and I often use the posters for quick speaking refreshers at various points in an individual lesson, or across a series of lessons, really getting the most out of the display. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 POSTERS FLASHCARDS

GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 DISPLAY POSTERS FLASHCARDS These German numbers display posters / flashcards create an instant introduction to Numbers 0-31 in German, also giving the learning environment fabulous German look and feel. I’ve found that having new and high-frequency language displays also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of German learners. The posters help students familiarize themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The font is big enough for students to read in various locations in the classroom - I find this really important so that we can get the most out of any particular display - for example we use them for spelling and mental calculation games at certain points in the lesson. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave. Laminate or print on card stock - I always do this with my displays - they hang a lot better, and I recycle them for many years. ITALIAN ERE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE ITALIAN PRESENT TENSE -ERE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE I’ve found that these are a great introduction to, and consolidation of, conjugating Italian verbs. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -ERE verbs in the present tense. I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the formal Lei form being identical to the conjugation of singular pronouns. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such as io sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. The Challenge One Answer Key has both simple present and continuous present tense to help embed this notion a little more. The structure of the resource is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and English-Italian Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1 each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2 gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 3 students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive form, from an English prompt. answer key I encourage my students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template regularly, reflecting not only on the verbs and conjugations they feel confident about, but also how they think their general skills in Italian might be developing through the activity - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. They note any new verbs they learn, which helps them to build a really comprehensive verb vocab bank. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about progress and learning in general, which is a really useful learning activity in itself. SPANISH IR VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE SPANISH KS3 SPANISH KS4 SPANISH PRESENT TENSE IR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency Spanish IR verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 Spanish students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in Spanish. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the Spanish present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including for example the singular formal pronoun Usted form being identical, which is fairly standard, but the conjugation of the formal singular Usted does frequently lead to errors at this stage of learning. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt. Notes and Next Steps template to encourage my students to reflect on their progress, and think about what they can reasonably and realistically do to meet learning targets and progress in their learning answer key Try this free sampler: SPANISH CONJUGATION PRACTICE FREE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-conjugation-practice-sampler-12477165 Have a browse in my store for more Spanish grammar activities, and a wide range of Spanish language teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too.
